ADOLESCENT

An academic program for students 12–14 years old.

No longer children but not yet adults, Maria Montessori recognized adolescence as a time of rapid growth, not unlike the very first years of life. Designed for students ages 12 to 14, the Adolescent program provides the ideal setting for students to expand their knowledge and embark on adult-like responsibilities, resulting in a solid, unique foundation for young adulthood.

What to Expect

Our Program's Unique Features

Project-Based Curriculum

The students work cooperatively and experience a higher level of freedom coupled with a greater sense of responsibility. Their environment is a non-competitive setting where “real work” is as much a part of the curriculum as academic subject areas.

Micro-Economy

The students enjoy their work in the greenhouse and the nature center. They grow, raise and sell seedlings and plants. They volunteer their time in the community by assisting in neighborhood trash pick-ups, working at a local food pantry and by visiting seniors in a local nursing home.

Creative and Physical Expression

Two main teachers guide their academic learning where these students can advance as far as they are able in math, social studies, language arts and the sciences. They also have specialists in art, Spanish, and gym.

Our alumni excel in school — and in life

Years of watching our students matriculate to high school, college and beyond confirms that an authentic Montessori Program is an excellent education for life. They excel in school and careers of choice but, more importantly, emerge as confident, well adjusted, happy adults.

What People are Saying

Reviews

five stars review

"I owe so much of who I am to the time I spent at RMS. The special thing about a Montessori education was that it allowed for me to explore my passions and that is something I have carried into both my professional and personal life. At RMS, I made friendships that have lasted almost 20 years. It is a special school with teachers who care just as much about teaching students math, reading, and writing as they do teaching students how to be good, kind, and compassionate people. By combining ethical and moral lessons with strong academic ones RMS stands alone. I truly feel proud every time I drive by, or even stop in to see the friendly faces of teachers who once taught me, to say that 'I went to school here."
