Learning to Make Maple Sugar

The Rainforest Canopy students were eager to learn the process of making syrup with the help of the maple trees located on our property. Not only was this a great hands-on adventure, it was delicious as well!

This project involved the entire classroom who worked as a community to identify, choose and name different trees as well as map out the trees on the school property.

The children ordered supplies, learned how to use a drill, hung sap bags, and collected, measured and recorded the quantity of sap in a computer app before beginning the work of straining and cooking the sap in their classroom. Nature offers so many engaging opportunities that our children love and need to grow to their fullest potential.
