Racine Montessori School 6th grader, Naomi Jansson, was one of the few selected of the 10,000 Wisconsin entries to present her National History Day documentary in Washington D.C. When tasked with selecting a topic for National History Day at school, she chose to create a 10 minute documentary on Dmitri Shostakovich. Naomi was drawn to Shostakovich when she attended the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s production of Shostakovich’s 10th symphony. “Everybody needs to know about Shostakovich because he shows us how to preserve your personal integrity even in hard times. What really drew me in was learning about the way that Shostakovich hid his initials in his music.”
Racine Montessori School would like to congratulate Naomi on her achievement and wish her best of luck at Nationals!
